First French ‘excellence fellows’ share €47m

Twenty-two fellowships in medicine and biology awarded in flagship scheme

The French government has announced the 22 winners in the first round of biomedicine ‘excellence fellowships’.

Launched in May 2023 with the intention of attracting and retaining excellent researchers in France, the scheme provides fellows with five years of funding to build their own research teams to work on a project of their choosing. It is funded via the health innovation arm of the France 2030 science and innovation programme.
