Academies warn EU against dedicated dual-use funding

   

Proposed creation of scheme for projects with military potential would be a mistake, says group

The EU should not create a dedicated instrument for funding research with military as well as civil potential, the European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities (Allea) has warned.

Such an instrument was proposed by the European Commission in January as one of several options for the EU to better support so-called ‘dual-use’ research, amid rising geopolitical tensions and growing interconnections between civil and military innovation.
