Focus group interviews of young Dutch scientists reveal feelings of insecurity in their work environment
Many early career researchers in the Netherlands feel unsure about what is expected of them, a survey has found.
The Rathenau Institute interviewed 42 early career researchers and found that many complained of unclear expectations regarding the quality of their work. Respondents also lamented being on temporary contracts and reported confusion over how to best navigate an apparently informal working environment that is nevertheless hierarchical. According to the report, these issues have resulted in feelings of insecurity.
