New governing board will oversee ARC, while ministerial power to veto grants will be limited
The Australian Research Council is to be overseen by a government-appointed board in a major structural shake-up.
The ARC, which is responsible for around A$815 million a year in research funding, will no longer be overseen directly by the minister for education. Instead, a board will be appointed by the minister, in conjunction with the minister for industry and science.
