Withdrawal from EU’s Euratom nuclear programme enables UK to ‘almost double’ fusion R&D budget
The UK’s decision to invest up to £650 million into fusion R&D rather than joining the EU’s Euratom nuclear programme has been welcomed by fusion sector leaders in both Europe and the UK.
As part of a deal announced yesterday on membership of EU R&D programmes, the UK decided not to take part in Euratom, a programme it had been a member of from 1973 until 2021.
