Labour’s shadow education secretary has been talking up universities
Something odd has happened these past few days. It began on Thursday, when the Policy Institute at King’s College London told us that the general public is really quite concerned about the financial health of universities and is inclined to blame political neglect if institutions find themselves pushed to the financial wall.
Over the weekend, there were more good vibes for higher education from Bridget Phillipson, Labour’s shadow education secretary. Playbook has heard on the grapevine that, should Labour win the election next week, Phillipson is pretty much a shoo-in to be kept in the education brief.
