Ireland’s department of business, enterprise and innovation could see a 9 per cent budget increase next year, with extra funding for a variety of research initiatives.
A briefing document on next year’s budget, released by the department on 9 October showed it will have €950 million to spend next year, a €79m increase over 2018’s budget. The department is one of the main funders of research in Ireland’s higher education sector, and also hosts agencies to promote innovation in business and scientific collaboration.
The budget includes a 4.5 per cent increase for research funding and an 11.7 per cent increase for capital investments.
