My winning proposal: Leverhulme absorbs the shock of the new

Unlike other funders, the Leverhulme Trust accepts bids from early-career researchers in emerging fields

Top tips:

  • The Leverhulme Trust is a unique funder so consult with previous grantees and those who know the trust well.
  • The trust favours research that other institutional funders will not fund and that is true even for early-career applicants.
  • Do not frame your research in terms of societal impact as you might do with a Research Council bid.
  • Publications do matter to the trust and if you have not published in the field you’re applying in it may not be worth applying.

The Leverhulme Trust’s Early Career Fellowships are intended for researchers with a track record who have not yet held a full-time permanent academic post.
