A unique scheme to bolster basic research into diabetes is back

After missing its usual spring round due to the coronavirus pandemic, Diabetes UK has opened its Early-Career Small Grants after a year-long break, with a 1 December deadline for applications.

The scheme is a unique opportunity for basic researchers looking to establish themselves in diabetes research to lead their own project. However, as Kamini Shah, the charity’s head of research funding, told Beckie Smith in this article first published in April 2018, even though this is a scheme for basic scientists, they should keep patient benefit firmly in mind.
