The British International Studies Association is bouncing back after a partial lockdown in 2020

Top tips

  • Applicants must be Bisa members for the duration of the award and for the reporting period afterwards.
  • Interdisciplinary bids are welcomed—including those from development, politics, geography and sociology departments.
  • For Early Career Small Research Grants, highlight the intellectual contribution your research will make.
  • Small, well-defined projects with clear parameters do best.

For one of the UK’s smaller learned societies, the British International Studies Association has a very active grants programme. There are three main schemes: Early Career Small Research Grants, Learning and Teaching Small Grants (both worth up to £3,000) and the Founders Fund (grants of up to £500 for the personal living costs of PhD students during the thesis write-up period).
