An open mind and an independent streak are critical attributes for Cern’s senior research fellows

The European particle physics laboratory, Cern, seeks fellows for its popular programmes twice a year via four streams, only one of which—the Senior Research Fellowship programme—is exclusively for theoretical and experimental physicists. The three other streams welcome computer scientists, engineers, materials scientists and the other early career specialists needed to operate a particle accelerator.

The Senior Research Fellowship programme is for those with a PhD or between four and 10 years of experience after gaining a master’s degree. Fellowships can run for periods from six to 36 months, depending on the project and the preference of the fellow. Stipends are worth between 7,201 Swiss francs (€6,800) and CHF 8,178 (€7,800) per month for six to 36 months and are offered alongside other employment benefits. The next deadline for Senior Research Fellowship applications is 1 March 2022.
