Top tips

  • Work hard on making your abstract concise and impactful.
  • Grant applications are no place for modesty; be bold about your experience and ability to carry out the work.
  • Interdisciplinary scholars should trust that this scheme will give them a fair hearing.
  • If your proposal is a departure from your previous research, address this in the bid and show that you can make the jump.

For more than 30 years, British Academy and Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowships have allowed academics who have been itching to dedicate their time to a major piece of work to scratch that itch. The scheme supports teaching buy-out and research expenses for a year. The 2021 competition is yet to be announced but is expected to open in the autumn with a deadline in November.
