Around 25 fellowships in ten government departments are up for grabs

Top tips

  • Applicants can only apply for one fellowship and the application should only focus on that opportunity.
  • Early career researchers must have a well-planned approach for mentorship and indicate how their institution will support them during the fellowship.
  • Applicants should treat the fellowship application like a job application rather than a call for research proposals.
  • It is essential that applicants are able to communicate clearly to a non-research audience. Ideally, applicants will also show insights into the specific area of policy.

After several schemes that offered short-term fellowships within public institutions, the Economic and Social Research Council has launched its Policy Fellowships, which offer applicants 18 months in one of 10 government departments.
