Drilling down into what makes a firm Geological Society of London application

Highly valued by geologists of all levels of experience, the Geological Society of London’s Research Grants have returned for their annual call. Once again, there is one route for submissions that are then assigned to whichever of the nine schemes fits the proposal best. The deadline for applications is 4 February.

Some aspects of Research Grants applications may have changed since this article was first published in January 2020, not least the average amount awarded, which now stands at £1,500. But the society’s grant-giving rationale remains the same—the idea is to support fieldwork or a line of enquiry that is exploratory and is not yet suitable for an application for greater funding.
