Why small research grants matter and how we can protect them
Earlier this month, the Wellcome Trust announced a partnership with the British Academy to support health-related humanities and social science research through a range of existing academy funding schemes, including their small grants scheme.
Although it’s been a year since I moved from directly supporting social science research, the British Academy small grants scheme is still one of my favourite funding schemes. Small but perfectly formed, it funds up to £10,000 over two years in research expenses via a proportionate process. The Leverhulme Trust and a number of niche and specialist funders have been paying into the scheme for a while, and it’s great to see this initiative from Wellcome.
