Changes in the powerhouse biomedical charity’s strategy are set to shake up funding patterns

Founded in 1936 by pharmaceutical entrepreneur Henry Wellcome, the charity that still carries his name has grown into one of the most important research funders in the UK, and globally.

The Wellcome Trust is now a powerhouse international foundation. In 2022, the trust revealed that its investment portfolio grew from £29 billion ($38bn) in 2020 to £38.2bn ($50bn).
