Ignore bad spelling at your peril, universities warned

Office for Students says it will take action if errors in students’ writing are ignored

Universities in England have been told to pay attention to students’ poor spelling and grammar or risk regulatory sanctions.

On 7 October, the Office for Students promised to take action if universities did not mark students down for spelling and grammar errors. Letting students off the hook risked compromising quality and standards in higher education, said the regulator.
