England’s regulator says it considered universities’ fears but student protection takes precedence
The Office for Students has introduced a condition of registration designed to protect students’ interests if a university is forced to close, despite a lack of support among universities.
On 31 March the OfS said financial pressures associated with the Covid-19 pandemic meant there was “a greater risk of a small number of providers needing, or choosing, to close”, and so there was a need to improve protections for students.
