Conservative peer says he will take action against universities that allow no-platforming
The new chair of the Office for Students has said it would be “nonsense” to avoid using the regulator’s powers to de-register universities that do not uphold free speech.
Conservative peer and chair of the OfS James Wharton told The Daily Telegraph newspaper on 8 April that so-called cancel culture in universities is “deeply unhealthy”, and he stressed that he would not hesitate to sanction universities that fail to protect freedom of expression.
