Government urged to provide better digital support for university students during pandemic
Four higher education bodies have pressured the UK government to take “urgent action” to combat digital poverty among students who still cannot gain access to online education.
In a letter to education secretary Gavin Williamson, the vice-chancellors’ body Universities UK, higher education IT firm Jisc, specialist universities’ body GuildHE and digital education group Ucisa said the government must do more “to support the thousands of higher education students who are still unable to access their education online due to digital and data poverty”.
