Student Loans Company data show jump in student loans after rising intake

There was an 8.6 per cent (£1.5bn) rise in the amount of money lent to higher education students in the 2020-21 financial year, amid growing concerns over the costs of higher education.

According to statistics published by the Student Loans Company on 10 June, the amount the SLC lent to higher education students reached £18.9 billion in 2020-21, up from £17.4bn the previous year.
