Bursaries cut for trainee arts and humanities teachers

Funding for trainee teachers cut for arts and humanities and reduced for other subjects

Bursaries supporting students to train as teachers in arts and humanities subjects have been dropped by the government, despite missing its teacher recruitment targets.

The Department for Education will stop offering bursaries in the 2021-22 academic year for teachers to train at postgraduate level in arts and humanities subjects and English, while the bursary for those who want to become language teachers has dropped from £26,000 to £10,000.
