Anger over ‘destabilising’ funding cuts for London and arts courses

Leaders label cuts “vandalism” after Office for Students confirms reductions will take place

Higher education experts have responded with dismay to news that proposed funding cuts, including the removal of London weighting from the strategic priorities grant, will go ahead.

In a letter to the Office for Students on 20 July, education secretary Gavin Williamson confirmed that London weighting—which gives extra funding to institutions in the capital to account for their higher costs—would be cut from the SPG.
