Social Mobility Commission critical of institutions’ record

Universities in the UK have “resisted” thinking about their role in promoting socio-economic diversity and inclusion, a report from the government’s Social Mobility Commission has claimed.

The commission’s 2021 State of the Nation report, published 20 July, says some higher education institutions are “anchor institutions for their communities” helping to develop a regional skills base and drive social mobility, but others are not.
