Oh sit down

Universities and science are on the agenda at the Conservative Party conference

Back in the 90s, Manchester band James would encourage the audience to get close to lead singer Tim Booth by mounting the stage and “sitting down in sympathy” as the band performed its show-stopping hit. We are sure the main auditorium at the Conservative Party conference has got even smaller since yesterday, to make the venue more intimate—maybe someone pushed the walls in a foot or two overnight.

More of what went down on the main stage in a moment. First, though, we turn our attention to the other major conference taking place this week: Arma 2021. Here, the size of the room is less of an issue given that, for the first time in its history, the event is taking place online.
