Ministers are urging universities to ‘revolutionise’, while Hepi reports on the psychology of student debt
It has been one of those weeks in higher education where almost anything that can happen does happen. We may not (yet) have a higher education white paper to consider, but as covered in Playbook yesterday, we do have an incoming director for fair access and a show of intent from the Department for Education suggesting that it means business on access and participation.
Yesterday, Playbook nipped up the Bakerloo line to hear further and higher education minister Michelle Donelan state in no uncertain terms that a return to “normal” pre-pandemic business was not something the government thought autonomous institutions should be considering. Apparently, the “comfort zone” that universities operated in before the pandemic is now a thing of the past.
