As we await news on lockdown relaxation, we hear about the importance of social science
Later today, prime minister Boris Johnson is due to outline the next phase of lockdown. With Covid cases on the rise in the UK, it is rumoured that ministers are contemplating a four-week delay to the full relaxation of restrictions, which is scheduled for 21 June.
Universities are unlikely to feature explicitly in the prime minister’s address and will probably fall under any more general expectations for education. We know from previous experience that higher education can sometimes appear to be an afterthought. However, with campuses now free to open to any students who still have tuition to complete, there is little expected that will affect teaching even if restrictions remain in place a while longer.
