Universities set out their stall ahead of strike action later this week

University employees have long argued, via the University and College Union, that higher education institutions are completely out of touch with the rest of the country.

Playbook has always remained neutral, of course. But when the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (representing institutions in the long-running dispute on pay) and Universities UK (batting for employers on pensions) announced that they were to hold a press conference about forthcoming strike action midway through England’s opening World Cup fixture, even we queried whether that was the best way to secure sympathy and coverage from the UK’s media.
