How to get students politically engaged and how per-student funding is declining
If turnouts in previous British local elections are anything to go by, only around a third of those eligible to vote today are likely to do it.
The elections will cover 4,411 council seats in England, including by-elections, plus mayoral elections in Watford and the London boroughs of Croydon, Hackney, Lewisham, Newham and Tower Hamlets. In very general terms, a high number of seats will be fought in the kind of metropolitan areas with high concentrations of students. All council seats in Scotland (a total of 1,226 councillors) and Wales (1,234) are up for grabs.
