Last week’s poll results point to a 2024 general election

While the Sunday politics shows mostly consisted of pundits discussing the proper length of time it takes to eat a curry, salient observations about Thursday’s election results mostly went unsaid. Despite the narrative of Tory resilience that was set by early counting overnight, the full run of results from Southampton to South Armagh makes for less happy reading for the Conservatives.

In total, they lost 491 seats across England, Wales and Scotland. Far from being a ‘mixed’ set of results, in the cold light of day it is at the thick end of a very bad outcome for the Tories.
