No lambanana for calmer Starmer

All the news from day three of the Labour conference, plus that John Blake speech

When it was first announced there would be a rendition of God Save the King at this year’s Labour Party gathering, most of the locals thought it was a salutation to King Kenny Dalglish, the former Liverpool star. The city has many icons.

These include the lambanana statues—half lamb, half banana, just Google it if you’ve never seen one—dotted around the city. Initiated for the European year of culture back in 2008, they have hung around. Another is the Royal Liver Building—one of the three graces on the waterfront, which is also home to the Universities Superannuation Scheme headquarters.
