Research shows how students have been struggling in the cost of living crisis

Few students will have spent the hours since Wednesday’s budget calculating their retirement prospects now that they can put more than £1 million tax-free into a pension. As an insight brief published today by the Office for Students makes clear, they are rather more concerned with how to meet the costs of day-to-day living.

The OfS brief presents findings from a range of research, including an online poll commissioned from Savanta of more than 4,000 students, in which almost one in five respondents said they had considered dropping out of university or college because of increases in the cost of living. Postgraduates and disabled students were particularly likely to be unsure about whether they could afford to continue.
