Africa dominates shortlist for Newton Fund prize

£500,000 award rewards innovative collaborations between UK and developing countries

Four of the five projects nominated for the £500,000 (US$654,000) Newton Fund Chair’s Prize are in Africa. 

The annual prize rewards collaborations between the United Kingdom and five countries—Egypt, Jordan, Kenya, South Africa and Turkey—that target one of three sustainable development goals: good health and wellbeing, gender equality, or sustainable cities and communities.
