South African to lead African crystallography body

New association welcomes Stellenbosch chemist Delia Haynes as its first president

A South Africa-based chemist, Delia Haynes, has been chosen as first president of the recently established African Crystallographic Association (AfCA).

The association views crystallography as a “vehicle for the sustainable development of Africa’s economy and society”, said Haynes, who heads Stellenbosch University’s Department of Chemistry and Polymer Science, in a 24 November statement.
