SKA’s expansion will require African training and funds

“We can’t do it by importing people” says observatory head Phil Diamond

The Square Kilometre Array has big plans for expansion in Africa but will need significant local investment to realise its goals, the project’s leader has said.

Phil Diamond, the director-general of the SKA Observatory, said the organisation is already planning its second phase, which will include building 2,500 dishes across Africa.
