South Africa unveils R50m rural science centre

Facility will promote science awareness and host exhibitions

South Africa has launched a R50 million (R3.3m) science centre in a rural part of the Eastern Cape province in an attempt to bring science to the people, especially youth.

The facility at Covimfaba was launched on 6 October. It is funded by R47.5m from the Department of Science and Innovation and R13m from the provincial education department.
