Queries over R15.9 million of research council spending mar science department’s record
The Auditor-General of South Africa has flagged concerns over spending at the Human Sciences Research Council for 2020-21, in a rare imperfect audit.
The HSRC was found to have made R15.9 million (US$1.03m) in irregular expenditure. The audit also threw up “fruitless and wasteful expenditure” in the shape of R27,000 spent on missed flights and traffic fines.
