South Africa approves space weather hub

      

National space agency will provide data for international aviation network

South Africa’s cabinet has approved plans to designate the country’s space agency as Africa’s hub for space weather forecasts for the international aviation industry.

The South African National Space Agency announced on 10 August that the cabinet had approved the International Civil Aviation Organization’s designation of South Africa to host a regional space weather centre. ICAO is a United Nations agency that oversees the safety, planning and development of international air travel.
