South Africa’s inequality ‘intolerable’, scientists say

Webinar participants advocate greater effort to narrow the rich-poor gulf

South African scientists have expressed dismay at levels of poverty and inequality in the country, and urged each other to work harder to shrink the gaps between the haves and the have-nots.

The views were aired during a 6 August webinar hosted by the Academy of Science of South Africa, and which discussed the “triple challenge” of poverty, inequality and unemployment across the country.
