University ratings are ill-suited to Africa but should not be shunned, academics tell webinar
The slew of rankings that rate universities around the world on their performance rarely value the strengths of African universities—but that’s no reason to shun them entirely, a webinar heard this week.
The 14 September webinar examined the influence of university rankings on African institutions. Speakers included Ahmed Bawa, the chief executive officer of Universities South Africa, and Joy Owango, co-founder of the Kenya-based Training Centre in Communication, which teaches academics how to better present their research to the wider world.
