Environmental observation network gets new head

Mary-Jane Bopape is one of Africa’s few Black women meteorologists

The South African Environmental Observation Network, a research facility of the National Research Foundation, has appointed Mary-Jane Bopape as managing director with effect from 9 May.

Bopape (pictured) was previously the research senior manager at the South African Weather Service. She holds a PhD in meteorology from the University of Pretoria and is one of only a few Black women meteorologists in Africa.
