The science is excellent, MPs told—but does not translate into life-saving policies

South Africa produces world-class climate science but fails to use that know-how to protect its people from environmental disasters, MPs heard last week.

Bringing environmental science insights to bear on policy remains a work in progress, Department of Science and Innovation director-general Phil Mjwara (pictured) told a 9 September virtual parliamentary committee meeting.
