South Africa gears up to launch three nanosatellites

                  

Constellation will form part of marine traffic surveillance network

South Africa’s Department of Science and Innovation plans to launch the first three satellites of its maritime surveillance platform MDASat on 13 January.

The full constellation of nine satellites will eventually identify and monitor vessels in near real-time in South African waters, in part to monitor poaching and other criminal activity.
