This week: research-centre closure, questions over job-loss numbers, and more
In depth: The Australian Research Council’s appeals committee has heard 28 appeals against the council’s controversial rule to exclude researchers who cited preprints in grant applications. At a Senate estimates hearing on 28 October, ARC chief executive Sue Thomas said that 17 Future Fellowship and 11 Discovery Early Career Research Award applicants had appealed. The council disqualified a total of 32 applications earlier this year for including references to documents held on preprint servers, all in the field of physics, rather than using peer-reviewed papers in journals.
