Tasmania develops test to diagnose online gaming addiction

A world-first test to assess the severity of internet video gaming addiction has been developed by psychologists at the University of Tasmania and Ulm University in Germany.

The psychologists used data from more than 550 students in China and the UK to develop a test for gaming disorder, which was officially recognised as a mental illness in May by the World Health Organization.

The findings are published online in the International Journal of Mental Health and Addiction.
