Auditors detail flaws in federal grant agency’s management

The Australian Research Council, which administers the country’s biggest grants system, needs to update and strengthen its performance measurement system, the federal auditor-general’s office has said.

Most of the ARC’s performance measurement criteria are relevant “but not all are reliable” or easy to understand, and several do not have clearly defined targets, a report by the Australian National Audit Office says.

The ANAO investigates all federal agencies and departments to check that they comply with federal governance, reporting and public accountability requirements.
