Differences between online and hard copy census forms criticised by Macquarie expert

A leading gender studies researcher has raised concerns that discrepancies between the hard copy and online forms for the Australian census risk undermining the vital data being collected in the massive nationwide exercise.

Australians filling in their mandatory census returns online have the option of identifying as male, female or “non-binary sex”. While the online form does not give them other identities to choose from, it has an additional option to enter a free-text answer.
