Minister announces review of Australian Research Council

ARC chief executive welcomes “great opportunity to review our purpose and functions and modernise”

The Australian Research Council’s “governance and reporting” is to undergo an independent review, education minister Jason Clare has said.

Speaking at the annual conference of the vice-chancellors’ group Universities Australia on 6 July, Clare (pictured) said the review would be in line with the recommendations of a Senate committee report in March this year. The report, from the Standing Committees on Education and Employment, examined a Greens-led bill that would have banned ministerial vetoes of ARC decisions, and it recommended a review of ARC processes.
