Report calls for Australia to lead the way on ocean-based carbon sequestration and reduction

Australia could become a world leader in ocean-based carbon reduction, but it needs to work on bringing technologies to maturity and lowering bureaucratic barriers, a report has said.

The report, written for the Blue Economy Cooperative Research Centre by the University of Tasmania, Auckland University of Technology and the private carbon reduction business OCT Emissions Solutions, says that the “blue carbon” market could outstrip its land-based equivalent, with a potential global value of up to A$1.2 trillion.
