Melissa Price appointed as science minister

Australia’s industry, science and technology brief split, as Price takes joint science and defence role

Melissa Price has been appointed as Australia’s minister for science and technology, partly to facilitate the country’s controversial new submarine programme.

Price’s appointment—which is in addition to her ongoing role as minister for the defence industry—followed the resignation of Christian Porter as minister for industry, science and technology in September. Porter’s brief has been split, with energy minister Angus Taylor taking on the industry portfolio, but Price will still have responsibility for industry links with the science and technology sector. Backbencher Tim Wilson becomes the assistant minister for industry.
